The video you just watched is something that Hike the Divide and Brave Alice Productions put together. Kendra, Daniel, Jim, Rose and Charlene are all people I met with as part of the larger Hike the Divide project - after doing so, I felt it necessary to create a separate video to push out ASAP in order to help with their fight in the best way I knew how. Now, ASAP had a deadline of February 20th - which is when the BLM's public comment period for amending their inadequate (e.g. doesn't even mention fracking) Resource Management Plan closes. As if trying to prove the community's charges that their lives have been disregarded and that their voices had not been heard, the BLM decided to auction off the land on January 25th - nearly a whole month before that comment period ends.
Now, if you've ever done any video work, you'll recognize that having a deadline jump that far forward is pretty inconvenient. With that in mind, imagine how inconvenient this change is to the communities who are directly at risk because of this!
All in all, I'm proud of the video we threw together, and I hope that it moves you to at least make those calls and/or submit comment to the BLM Farmington Office.
I'll be editing this post in the next few days to give more detail on the story, but as the 25th is tomorrow, there are many things to be done.
